Interview #3: Burke Swindlehurst hijacks dhblog...

hello all. i asked Burke to indulge us here at Burkeiscool.com fan central. remember, if you have any questions you'd like Burke to answer that weren't included, post a comment and ask away. Burke took this interview one step further and threw some questions back at me. hope you all enjoy. i'm working on a few more interview subjects and i'm hoping to put together something good. the next interview announcement will be made monday morning, November 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. sharp.

dhblog: can i call you by your nickname, Tbird?

Tbird: Of course...

dhblog: do you or have you ever run with scissors? (Thanks to Dona and her coworker, Bryan Smith for this question. He used it as a job interview question)

Tbird: Many times. Almost daily. In fact....I'm doing it right now. Sent with my Crappberry 5000 while running with scissors.

dhblog: favorite tv show: Dukes of Hazzard, Gilligan's Island, Different Strokes?

Tbird: Definitely the Dukes. And that would have been my answer even if you hadn't given me the option. Hazzard County feels like home, you know?

dhblog: what is the best concert you've seen?

Tbird: Hmmm...that's a tough one. I'd have to say Govt. Mule in Vegas at the Joint a coupla years back...Wilco here in Salt Lake last year would be a close second. They ended the show with "Don't fear the Reaper". Gave me a week-long perma-grin.

dhblog: what is the best concert you've seen recently?

Tbird: My Morning Jacket last week.

dhblog: what is the last book you read and can you tell us a little about it? (Bryan Smith...)

Tbird: It's a book called "Cottonwood" By Scott Phillips (Thanks for the reccomendation, Jeff!) It's somewhat of a historical fiction  based partly on the true story of a murdering family in Kansas who became known as "The Bloody Bender's" from back in the mid to late 1800's. I'm a big western fan, but more Cormack Mcarthy than Louis L'amore.

dhblog: have you ever noticed a dent, small or large, in your car and know you were not involved? (Dona...)

Tbird: Every time my wife gets home from work.

dhblog: can you tell us about your favorite hobby?

Tbird: I don't think it's that kind of a website.....just kidding. I'd have to say driving in a rural area in the early Fall  interupted by fishing. Playing guitar would be a close second.

dhblog: favorite time of year?

Tbird: Refrence previous question....followed closely by the first day of the racing season.

dhblog: how many hours a day do you sit in your rocking chair on the porch?

Tbird: Depends on how dirty my sawed-off is.

dhblog: tell us about your pets?

Tbird: Summer and Stella. Both greyhounds, one full sized and one pert near miniature. Yin and Yang there, all the way. Itrovert and extrovert. Kind of like me depending on the day.

dhblog: have you ever weighed more than 150lbs?

Tbird: 151 lbs. December 1993.

dhblog: what do you think T$ is up to right now?

Tbird: Leaving a 9 minute guitar solo on my voicemail.

dhblog: you seem to have a great music collection that Hageman lifts from your vehicle. what is the next artist he will steal from your car?

Tbird: I can tell you what he's not going to lift. My new Micheal Stipe covers the Cure while imitating Johny Cash album. No Way.

dhblog: any closing comments?

Tbird: How bout closing arguments. I like that better.

dhblog: can you ask yourself an important/relevant question and answer it for us?

Tbird: Why did I ride up Suncrest on my single speed today? I honestly don't have a good answer for that one.

************

Alright Dave, this is all well and good, but I have to turn the tables and hijack your interview. You need to be interviewed by someone other than yourself on your own blog. Here we go.....

Tbird: Dave, you need a nickname. I think RB suggested "Pain Cave", which I find quite appropriate, but how bout instead of

Harward, we just make it "Harder", because when I ride or race with you, I get put in the pain cave!

DH: You’re never even breathing hard in any race I’ve been in. Sounds tough though.

Tbird: If you were a car, what make, model and year would it be? ( BTW, I would be a Firebird just for irony's sake).

DH: 1987 BMW M5.

Tbird: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW on your Rhapsody account?....(BTW you need to check out "The Black and Blues"!

DH: Queens of the Stone Age, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret, from Rated R. On deck is The D4, Party, from 6Twenty…in the hole is Clinic, Welcome, from Walking With Thee.

Tbird: What is your favorite Rolling Stone's album?

DH: It would be a toss up between Flowers and Made in the Shade

Tbird: Who is/was your  favorite Rolling Stone and why?....your least favorite and why?

DH: Favorite Stone: Ron Wood, because whenever he talks you expect him to fall on his face drunk out of his mind…you never have any idea what he’s saying. Least Favorite Stone: Keith Richards…I know, he’s the guitar, but the self-destruction has lasted a bit too long. Although you have to admit, the way he makes a cigarette hang is a bit of cigarette mastery.

Tbird: Have you ever listened to a Rolling Stone's album?

DH: Yes, many times. Grew up listening to the Stone’s music whenever I was with my uncle.

Tbird: Buffy or the Vampires? (BTW, I have a sister named Buffy. No joke)

DH: Buffy, because she's got her crew of nerdy misfits. watching is also a good way perpetuate the fact that you are cool to your 11-year-old daughter.

Tbird: Tell us about your pets.

DH: Dogs: Rocco and Bella. Cats: Naya and Tigger. We have a houseful of pets.

  • Rocco is a 1-year-old male Keeshond, think very furry, prankster, smiling (sidenote: picking up Rocco caused me to miss a month of training last winter...on the day i flew to chicago to pick him up i rode from ogden to slc most of the way in the snow...then got changed and jumped on a plane...needless to say, a few days later i ended up with pneumonia and had to restart the training in december).
  • Bella, 3-month-old female German Shepherd Dog, nearly as big as Rocco, think Black and Tan and way too smart for how old she is.
  • Naya, 2-year-old female kitty-kat we got at the humane society when she was a kitten…she has to be the softest furred cat ever and she loves Jade (I think they can actually somehow talk to each other).
  • Tigger, a 1.5-year-old male kitty-kat that looks like he should be named Tigger…also from the humane society when he was a kitten (he was found at Camp Williams)…very spastic and always into whatever he shouldn’t be at the moment.

Tbird:Were you ever a teacher's pet and if yes, what special privileges did you get?

DH: Yes, the teacher of nearly all my art classes in high school just happened to be my mom’s best friend from high school. Privileges included extended lunch and never having to complete an art project I wasn’t interested in and still ended up with an A.

Tbird: What is slyfoxmtbparts.com doing right now?

DH: Probably sorting through your 15-years of bike gear you turned over to him to put on ebay.

Tbird: Better yet, where is he right now?

DH: hmmmm…in a van down by the river.

Tbird: Your best concert?

DH: The Dead Kennedy’s at the Fairgrounds coliseum way back in the day (1987 give or take) or Wall of Voodoo at the Fairgrounds coliseum.

Tbird:The best concert you've seen in the last year?

DH: Wasatch Elementary 2nd grade program portraying Rudyard Kipling's The Elephant's Child, in which Javan had some special narration lines.

Tbird: And, finally, have you been stealing any CD's out of my car recently?

DH: I haven’t found any CD’s to steal out of your car, although the Kenny Rogers and Barbara Mandrell looked tempting. However, i did steal this poster from your garage...

Bay City Rollers Photo

Tbird:Thank you Dave. You are a gentleman and a scholar.....and a helluva bi' rider too.

thanks Burke! i know T$ is playing a guitar solo on your voicemail. I wonder what #1 is up to right now...

Dear Ihatebirds....

I'm not getting much sleep lately, and when I do, I wake up with a severe headache from using my sawed-off as a pillow.
Fears....legless kittens.
