some TOFU lowdown

The Tour of Utah is less than 3 weeks away. We’ve got an all-star squad put together including SkynnyB, Hagemonster, The Body a.k.a. Jessica, Zulle a.k.a. A-rock, Party Jack, and yours truly, DH (I keep campaigning for HeavyD or RowD, but I hear Hardwood a lot). Hagemonster has fortunately taken on the role of team manager and he’s been getting all the setup rolling. The Tour of Utah staff look to be putting on a quality event. Among the plethora of biographical information provided, we found at the following tidbits: SkynnyB is dealing with the age-old dilemma of lightweight wheels or one bottle cage like Chicken; Hagemonster’s favorite color isn’t yellow; Party Jack and Zulle have post-TOFU plans that take them away from cycling and into the PAWCWC (Professional Arm Wresting Championship World Cup); The Body has a secret collection of Barry Manilow records; and HeavyD purchased stock in BandAid just prior to signing his race release form.

On a more serious note, I was just out at www.tourofutah.com and I watched the promotional video again. The clip shows lots of footage of the stage 1 criterium from last year, one of my favorite races ever. Watching it brought back a lot of really cool memories and also some not so cool. The memories range from winning that opening stage to less than 24 hours later lying in a clinic with lidocaine numbing large areas of road rash all over my body. I didn’t realize the level of emotion that builds inside when I think in depth about those two days, as well as the many weeks following. Probably because the family is so involved in racing is the reason. You would not believe how proud J-dorade was the night that I won the criterium. The next day you would not believe how scared J-vanator was after my crash or how J-dorade just about took over for the paramedics. She really wanted to dig that rock out of my hip but they just wouldn’t give her the tweezers. D-oza became a road-rash wound professional after last year, emotionally scarring her for life. Overall, it still brings back strong and vivid feelings every time I think seriously about it. This year is all different. We’ll remain upright and represent!

Watch for additional biographical information leaks, details enquiring minds want to know.
