TOFU recovery

It's Tuesday night and RMR was on the schedule. I met up with Crispy in the parking lot and we rolled a few laps to hopefully run the pain out of my legs from Tour de Gap. Just before the race started, Stormin' and I were waiting on the 3rd row and he asked how TdG was. This conversation was post-multiple Red Bull intake.

DH: We missed you at TdG.

Stormin': I know. I wanted to go but it didn't work out.

DH: It was fun, but I was disappointed the organizers didn't take my suggestions.

Stormin': What were they?

DH: Well, I called the organizers a few days prior to the race and told them they should do 4 90-minute criteriums with some tight turns and a finishing straight of about 400 meters. They said they would consider it, so I signed up.

Stormin': Those are some good suggestions.

DH: I thought maybe they would consider it last minute.

Stormin': Did they?

DH: No. I guess right after I called with my super-crit proposal, T-bird called and gave his proposal.

Stormin': That's a bummer. What was his proposal?

DH: Some crazy stage that starts at Brian Head and goes up that stupid 13% road towards Cedar Breaks and then turns off to Mammoth Creek so you have to climb back up for a 10,460 foot sprint! I tried to intervene when I arrived. T-bird eats these climbs for breakfast.

Stormin': Did they listen to him?

DH: For some insane reason, they did.

Stormin': That's good for T-bird.

DH: I know! Although, he said after he heard about my proposal and considered it, he called back and told them to just do 1 lap instead of the 3 laps of Mammoth Creek he originally suggested. He must have remembered the two times that I moved him up a few spots at TOFU and felt bad for bagging on my 4 crit idea. The organizers agreed since they also felt bad about scrapping the super-crit proposal.

Stormin': So, how did that stage turn out for you?

DH: I finished better in that stage than in the criterium! Go figure!

Stormin': So, how did that stage turn out for T-bird?

DH: Well, after his warm-up of riding the 25 miles from Beaver and up the climb from Parowan to Brian Head, he was ready to rock. He laid down the heat as soon as the first climb started...about 1.5 miles into the race.

Stormin': Were you happy with your finish?

DH: I guess so. I probably would have almost beat T-bird if I would have done his warm-up.

Stormin': Probably.

It's always great to have a pre-race chat with Stormin'. He's a great listener...but he was looking at me kind of funny the whole time we talked. By the way, Stormin' played the RMR breakaway perfect tonight and attacked repeatedly until he was away and pulled off the solo victory. Nice job.
