Lets talk Crit Series....

By now everyone knows that I am running the Crit Series from 2007 going forward...I have had a hand in it in years past but this is the first year of marek gone solo.  I personally have always loved the week day racing...riding out to the race on a tuesday evening with the crew...chewing the fat...then racing with reckless abandon....loading up at sinclair and riding back again.

My favorite memories are of the old Rhodes team days....working on opperation "human shield"....learning team tactics from the front and the back.  Ryan Littlefield yelling at me to GO!!  Tom Cook yelling STOP!  Ahh those were the days....

My point...I guess?  It has always been a cool series but what to do to make it better!?

In 2007 we will see leaders Jerseys and monthly Prize money....The mid race sprints will be back....plus a bunch of cool admin stuff to make doing it all easier.  I have managed to keep the price at $8....

But what else???

Mix up the course a bit. Last year at RMR when we detoured around the "lake" on the southside it was fun to have a little change.

You could print some little business cards with a free race on them and have a next week's free entry preem (sp?) It's something with value that dosen't really cost you anything. Or you could get one of the tennis ball guns from american gladiators for the chicane.

I know...I will tape the free race card to the tennis ball...If you catch it in the air free race...one bounce 50% off...two bounces 25%

We will have some course changes throughout the year and there will be cash priems and prize priems from sponsors....Just to keep it interesting.

What else???

One word

dogs...

Seriously, how bout switching off between racing the courses clockwise one week and counter-clockwise the next.  And I remember hearing talk a while back about some sort of racing 101 for the first timers.  The first weekly crit. (Seattle) that I did had a 15-20 min. clinic before every race.  They would give little tips like how to corner better, riding in a paceline, and so on.  I didn't help to prevent me from getting dropped the first time, but it was still nice and made me feel more welcome.  I"m sure that there at least a few of us, myself included,  who would be willing to step up and volunteer to help bring new people to the crits.

The clinic is in the works...We tried it in years past but noone was all that interested.  We will start them out the last Saturday in March and then everyother Tuesday...If we get a big group of newbies at any event we will make adjustments.  I have a bunch of Cat1s that are willin to help out...If it is going well and people dig it we will just keep doing it.

great idea!

I think once people get the feel for it we will add the dogs?!
