If you like to Blog here let your voice be known....

I do not know about you but I get a kick out of all the random this and thats that I get to read here.  Ryan B coming straight outta provo....Sandie....The Mop...all a good read!  Well word on the street is if you want to read from these personalities in the future you will not be able to do it here!  The UCA has decided that this site does not need Blogs or Forums so they are having them taken off.  Along with a bunch of other information.

Isn't it great to have a commitee of people (better said one or two in that group) that know exactly what you want and what is best for you.  They just know if you were not here waisting your time blogging you would train more and race more....but only on the weekends!  They are sure that forums and blogs offer nothing to the common good of cycling in Utah.  Sometimes Less is just Less... Less racing durng the week does not equal more racers on the weekend...it just equals less racing.  Less little cool places to talk about racing and shoot the bull do not make for a better site....it just means less time to enjoy all the cool people who race.

Hey is it still ok to race a UCA event if I am running Campy or is that going to be out as well?

Oh yeah, don't take that whatever as like "whatever"... That probably doesn't make sense, but the point is whatever- I am not a hater and I will take my blogging somewhere else and still have love for the UCA site.  I guess what I am trying to say is whatever.

Marek,

I will respond to your post, since yes it was me that brought up the idea of axing the blogs (NOT the forums) from the UCA site.  It was decided by your elected directors that the blogs did not belong on the new website.  We will be rolling out a brand new, slick website in the very near future.  It will be very user friendly and will hopefully serve as a great source of information for existing and new riders.  The blogs just don’t fit into our vision of where the UCA and the website are heading.  We are working hard to create an environment that is friendly and nurturing to new and existing riders.  People can blog all they want; we are just doing away with the UCA provided URL’s. This only affects a couple of people and I'm sure their fans will find them in cyberspace.

This site is for the UCA and its main focuses are: Information and Marketing for UCA/USAC sanctioned competitive racing.  The site is not designed to be a chat room.  If someone wants to start up their own cycling website with all of that included, they have my full blessing.  I believe SoCal has www.socalcycling.com and also its Local Association site, www.scnca.com.  One is a social site and the other operated by the LA.

All I’m going to say about the rest of your post, is that the UCA directors were elected to promote and manage the Utah Cycling Association including all of its clubs, racers and promoters.  We were voted in to make UCA/USAC competitive sanctioned racing in Utah the best it can be and to try and promote the races to the best of our ability. The midweek races are permitted NON COMPETITIVE by USAC. They are training races and the focus should remain so.  The UCA is concerned more with the permitted competitive races that typically happen over the weekend, than non-competitive permitted or unsanctioned events such as training races and club rides.

The mid week training races in Utah are a great asset to cycling in Utah and I hope they continue for a long time.  But as your elected Board of Directors, we have a responsibility to the UCA racers, promoters and clubs. And our job is to make the UCA the strongest racing series in the state, and we have a plan in place to do that.

And if people don't like the direction we are going, they have a voice now, unlike in recent years and can vote me or anyone else out this fall. But hopefully, people will look beyond my Anti-Blog stance and look at the Team Profile, Results Import System and Host Housing list that I was able to put together this winter (with the help of Travis, of course)

Todd Hageman

Todd,

Interesting?  As a racer/promoter/club member/fan of the UCA I fail to see how an event is permited (as long as it is USAC) would put it outside of the interest of the people you claim to represent.  My reasons for permiting the Crit Series with USAC are two fold... One, to keep costs down, USAC insurance is slightly less.  Two, to help the UCA by encouraging more license sales.  30% of the Crit Series racers dont have a USAC license and now they will need one.  Apparently though the racers at the crit series are not of your concern because they choose to attend a USAC event with the wrong type of permit.  Perhaps those 30% should get a $10 reduction in their USAC fee as they will be receiving no benefit from their unwanted L.A

I can not wait to see how this slick and professional new website improves my racing.  The best L.A. site in the west...but the best for who?  Is there a problem with what we have now.  Where is the data to support the notion that our current site turns people away?

I guess something should be done...after all those years of having your voice smoothered...being held down while te race seen went from 5 events to "to many".  I am all for change...change with a point, plan, and a purpose.

Why the hate and discontent?  I think what you guys are doing with RMR is great.  Going with the USAC will not only help the UCA, but it saves money for you as well.

There is nothing wrong with this website, we just thought that we could spruce it up a little.  It will be the front page for our publicity push for new cyclists.  Again, a good thing for everyone.

I appreciate everything that you have done in the past and continue to do now.  Not all change is bad.  Work with us and we both can help to improve racing in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.

Cheers,

Ferg
