Productive Training Style

talks about Perceived Volume training. I've always wondered about this. If you ride for 5 hours, and feel great doing it, you are drained to a certain level. You credit 5 hours to your week. Then if you have a crappy day, ride for 2 and feel more drained than you did on your 5 hour ride and the ride seemed
alot harder. Does the 2 hour ride help you more/same/less than your 5 hour ride in a fitness sense?
