Site Changes Incoming

General
I have merged the UCA site under the CS (community server) parent site.  So the UCA and CS all will share the same theme, look, feel and authentication/authorization.  And no, I wont be using the default CS theme. :-)

Blogs
Your blog URL's will be changing: http://www.cycleutah.com/cs/blogs/turboryan will become http://www.cycleutah.com/blogs/turboryan.  I will setup a temporary redirector however, so nothing should break.

Another possibility would be http://blogs.cycleutah.com/turboryan, or maybe even http://turboryan.cycleutah.com.  Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

Also, if you did not notice, there are a bunch of new themes availalbe for your blog.  Check them out sometime, some are really nice.

As always, if your interested in a blog here at CycleUtah.com, let me know and i'll hook you up.

Results
I'm about 90% complete on the new results input system, so importing results should be really slick and easy for Todd next season.  Also the way we display results are changing in a big way, I'm moving away from a Calendar type view to a more complete view like OBRA's result page.

Does anyone know of a RSS/Atom feed for CyclingNews.com?  Can't seem to find anything on the site itself.  I hope they get on the ball if they have not already.  It's '06 already!

Now where's that screen scraper of mine...
Moving On

This is my last week at SportsBaseOnline.Com, I have found a new job working for a military contractor doing .NET C# work.

It's been an interesting ride with SBO, I’d like to publicly thank Dirk and Marek for putting up with my crap, and giving me the opportunity to see cycling like nothing ever!  (Redlands, Sea Otter, etc)

I am leaving on good terms, I do plan on helping them out in emergencies and such.  I am still going to keep the UCA site up and running (tech side), but I wont have time to deal with the content. (results, news etc)

I have to say my last weeks(s) have been interesting, I'm writing this from Sea Otter.  This thing says Bike Celebration like anything you could ever see.  Think Park City Nationals times 10! It’s really hectic and stressful, but then again its really cool to be part of this event.

Anyway, its been really cool to know / meet all you, and I wish you all the best.

You bet, this sucks.  Talk about a crappy upgrade process.  Things should be coming together now.  Photos are still not working, but for the most part everything else is. Update: Photos are back up.  BTW anyone have any they want me to post?  Send them in.

Finally got the new site code uploaded, I hope to finally be done with it, and *never* mess with the results code again.  It should fit the needs for years to come.  I was able to import '03, '04 and '05 results into the new system, not sure how accurate they are but oh well, I had to pull out some willy hacks to get them in.  It was one of those time I say "WTF was I thinking?!?!"  I cant find the database files I backed up the '01 and '02 results to.  Anyway, I'll be doing some cool data analysis with the results.  IE: See visually when athletes peak... ;-)

The Utah Crit Series site has been updated with the same code.  I originally had plans to take back the crit series and incoporate it back into the UCA site, but the powers that be said "no".  Its in the process of a new layout design, the current is just temp.  Keep checking back to see the changes.

The new forums/blog/photo software is coming along nice.  You can check it out here.  I'll be updating CycleUtah.com sometime in late Febuary after they release version 2.0.  You can check out some of the new features here.

By for now.

Has anyone seen Todd around?

Productive Training Style

So Todd's post, he talks about Perceived Volume training.  I've always wondered about this.  If you ride for 5 hours, and feel great doing it, you are drained to a certain level.  You credit 5 hours to your week.  Then if you have a crappy day, ride for 2 and feel more drained than you did on your 5 hour ride and the ride seemed alot harder.  Does the 2 hour ride help you more/same/less than your 5 hour ride in a fitness sense?
DirectTV Woes
16 November 05 09:24 AM | Travis | 0 Comments
Ok, so I decide to bite the bullet and order a DirectTV system. (Dish Network is out, no OLN anymore)  I'm not much into TV, but I thought maybe the DVR would change that.  So I go to order the system and the nice person on the other end informs me I am required to have a land based phone line in order for the DVR to recieve programming.  WTF is up with that?  Ever heard of the internet?  Last I heard we are half way to 2010!  I dont have a land based phone line, its 2005 and we use mobile phones these days.  Why cant they use an internet connection (like everything else).  Here are a few bonuses that come to the top of my head:
  • Faster downloads of the programming, less interuption.
  • Larger programming downloads, users can schedule shows *way* in advance.
  • Cheaper for DirectTV, they dont have to pay the 1-800 phone call costs that the DVR's make when they call home.
  • For those with land lines, it would not disable your land line while downloading programming. Or interupt existing voice calls.
Sure there is more...

Anyway, it looks like ReplayTV and Tivo (Which DirectTV uses BTW) both have DVRs that use broadband.  Tivo even has a wireless option, so I could use with with my wireless network.  Wont have to run ethernet up to the TV.  Now to decide which one... more later.
