Book of Redlands Volume 2: This one may actually mention racing...
The first stage was a TT of 5k uphill. At the manager's meeting, they warned us that they would be enforcing a time cut. I think they wanted to cull the field before the crit. Anyway, the course was nearly all uphill with the steepest bit at the end. Popular wisdom told me to go out easy and save "the juice" for the end. Unfortunately, there was no juice. I think I would've done better (by a few seconds) if I went out hard because I would still have to get over the steep bit and I bet I would've crawled over it just as fast. Nathan O'Neill fresh off his Commonwealth Games gold medal winning ride came by me about half way up. The next day there was a quote from him in the paper saying he didn't feel fast. Thanks for rubbing it in, Jackass. In any case, he won and he is fast.
The Bad News:
Slow-ver's car broke down and he missed the stage.
Marc-o, TMac, and Other Ryan were time cut. Only six guys were time cut and 3 were from our team... Not so good. I am not sweating the guys because they gave it their best shot and were only a couple seconds out. Why time cut six guys anyway??
So after 5k our team is down to half its size.
We are now leading the reverse team G.C. This is when you read it from the bottom.
The Good News:
Chipotle after the stage. That's about it.
