    Group Ride in Sandy

    Dudes, Brothers, and Sisters...

The UCA meeting was awesome tonight.  Tons of thanks to Todd for arranging that bad boy as I'm sure uber amounts of work were involved.  After downing too many pieces of that ridicuosly good chocolate cake, I decided I best be riding big tomorrow.

That being said... Let's start a group ride in Sandy...

so here's the deal... Looking around the room at the awards ceremony, I realized I didn't know that many people.  It has nothing to do with my lack of involvement in the community, it's just that I only get to know the guys I race with...And even that is limited.

I came from California where the group rides rule.  In fact I hear that you can use your results form The Weekend rides for upgrade requests..(please don't take that seriously)  We had 3-4 group rides during the week to choose from, and 2-3 infamous group rides to rock on the weekend.  The amount of people I know just from riding my bike back home is staggering and lots of those guys are my really good friends.

What I'm suggesting is this...  Let's set a ride and make it epic.. It should exist from the beginning of fall and go until spring... And on non racing weekends during the summer... I know cross season is going, but not everyone does cross and cross races aren't every weekend.

A group ride is a great place to learn better bike handling, better pack skills, learn the strengths and weaknesses of the guys you race against, meet people, and get some more good buddies.  It's also a great place to build speed since you can ride so much faster in a group and it better simulates racing...   Riding around solo with an ipod may be okay training but you will never be able to suffer as much as you could riding with a group. You can keep the winter weight off too which is always hard if you are a chocolate fanatic like me.

The other argument is that its time for rest and base miles.... Cool deal.. Come sit in the group and those of us who want to roll hard will tow everyone around free of charge... Or... Ride easy all week and then grab some intensity on the weekend.  There is so much to gain by riding in large groups that it riddles my mind as to how Utah does not have a big group riding scene.  If I'm missing something please fill me in.

Weather may be harsh but last I checked cycling is a harsh sport... Argue for your limitations and sure enough they are yours...

Everyone is welcome... That's the best part... cat 5's through seasoned bad asses, group riding has something for us all.  Come spring everyone can get rowdy and we can get ready for season.

So basically from here on out, if the weather is "rideable" I will be at Canyon Bicycles in Draper off of 123rd south, ready to rock and roll at 10:00 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.  I consider just about everything but torrential downpours to be rideable.   I want to get a course set for each day that doesn't change.. that's the nature of the best group rides.  Perhaps come February we will make it longer but for now a 2 hour 40 mile loop is what we are going for.  When we have that established, a different one for each day, I will post the route descriptions so you can hop into the group at any point.

I hope all you dudes, brothers, and sisters will get on the group riding thing.  I'd be stoked to get to know all the cyclists out there and get some good rally sessions going...

I knew you were lying when you told me you'd come to where the flavor is (the UC baby) to train all winter.

Probably not starting until November, and probably noon from Racer's... the best winter ride in Utah. More epic than Sleevie can handle.

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

I used to do some of the group rides from racers and was bummed not to find any when I changed latitude so I'm stoked for this ... I'm not sure what kindof riding shape I'm in right now but I'll start showing up for one of the 2 rides ... hopefully this 40 mile loop isn't little cottonwood, big cottonwood, home lol

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

Can't go this Saturday - I'm doing the City Creek Bike Sprint -- but I'll try to make it the next Saturday. I've been jonesing for a good group ride, but I'll warn you now that I'm a Cat 5 at best and won't be able to keep up with most of the more seasoned racers and riders.  Still, if you'll pull me along, I'll give it a go every other week or so.

My wife supports my cycling habit, but only as long as it doesn't take me away from her on our mutual days off too frequently.

    I ride, I write.

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

CANYON BICYCLES GROUP RIDES Canyon Bicycles is conducting group rides this winter, Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10:00 am., 760 East 12300 South, Draper. All abilities are welcome. This is a great place to learn the ropes at less than race pace, with the option for more experienced riders to race it out. The general idea is to start and finish together, so if there is some attacking, we will re-group at pre-determined points along the route. We will be establishing routes we will stick to, with a variety of terrain, the general length will be around 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

     Starting this weekend?

Personally got tired of showing up for the ride and no one else showing up so will be interesting to see how consistant the group is this go round.

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

I live in the Sandy area and would be up for a group ride on Saturday.  I have to run into work to do some quick stuff Saturday morning, if I get done in time I might drop by.  Where are you riding at?  And how fast does this really go?  I'm not the quickest rider.  I am also recovering from a minor knee injury and have to take it easy on hills.  So if you are planning a hillier ride or faster pace this week, just let me know and I'll hold off until another week.

     Thanks

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

Ruby Blue: Saturdays we usually go South to American Fork, mostly flat. Ride dynamics are hard to predict, we will discuss the ride protocol and re-grouping points before the start. Sundays we usually go West out to Herriman, sort of hilly. The general idea is that group rides prepare newer riders for a "racing" scenario without the pressure of a race. Don't let that scare you away, the only way to know is to try it.

    Re: Group Ride in Sandy

The only pressure will be trying to hold onto the Claw's wheel in the crosswind while he's telling you some crazy story or making you laugh. I think it's on purpose that he comes up with the madman talk so that he can work you over. It's quite a talent Claw.

Since everyone is advertising (and I told Sleevie about this already), the Porcalized crew meets up on Saturday's and Sunday's throughout the winter months at Starbucks on 13th and Union Park Ave. Times have not yet been established for this winter but these rides are great! AJ is typically cracking the whip, however, so be ready for the pain cave...kidding, about the pain cave at least.

    Re: Group Ride this SATURDAY

This Saturday October 14th. =  Semi-regular 2nd annual do it when the weather is good and we feel like it 4-Canyons EVERYONE INVITED group ride.  Assemble at flashing sign (the sign flashes, you don't have to) @ mouth of Little Cottonwood in time to commence pedaling @ 9:00 am sharp. Could be a 12-25 kind of ride. It's either the beginning or the end - or both, of the season...

    2 up and RIDE SAFE!!!
