Step 1:  Get a cross bike and start riding it.  (I happen to be selling one.)

Step 2:  Read up on some of the information on the links and other pages of utahcyclocross.com

Congruatulations for your interest in THE greatest form of bike racing. I live in Lehi too and begin practicing on a make shift course at Lehi Jr. High School in mid August. I would be glad to hook up and help you out. Give me a call then; meanwhile, get ready for a high intensitly two and a half month season beginning in Ocotber and going through mid December.

Re: any tips for getting started in cycloX

jeff's comment on the "make shift course" reminded me...

when i told my son that there was going to be an early CX race in a few weeks, his first comment was, "arrgh!!! does that mean you're going to set up the practice barriers at the park again?"

    you bet'cha!!!

--sounds like jeff does some practicing down south.

--i know dr cross has put on some good clinics up in the avenues. hopefully that will happen again.

--i practiced several times last year, and might even have a word of wisdom or 2, if you're new enough to the sport. north of the border in bountiful, north canyon park. let me know if you're in that area and interested in learning cross. i made a couple PVC barriers and would be willing to do a few more.

--anyone else have a local park where they go to look like a fool in front of kids and picnickers, so they don't have to look like a complete fool in front of their cycling buddies??

i'll post my early season training sessions. i know jacob would love to have you there. misery loves company.

Re: any tips for getting started in cycloX

I'm excited!  The guys at my LBS (Bingham on Wash. Blvd in Ogden) pursaided me that this is something I want to do.  I got a bike, used.  A Specialized S-Works Tricross.  We've practiced the course at Fort Buenaventura in Ogden.  It seems like a blast!  I hope I survive my first season doing this. :-)    Now my wife has the bug and wants to do it too.  Just what I need, another bike in the stable!  Oh well.  Any advice on good techniques for dismounting and mounting a moving bike?  Are SPDs a good choice for pedals?  My wife prefers eggbeaters.

    Thanks,
    James
