    Team Points Competition-Idaho Cycling

Reinstate the team points competition. To make this easy to implement, it will be based on the existing individual points system. Team points will be determined simply by multiplying the individual points by a given multiplier as specified here. Men 1,2 and Women 1-3 would have their individual points multiplied by 4. Masters and Juniors and Category 3 Men multiplied 2. Men 4/5, women 4 multiplied 1. Add up all of these team points across categories to determine the overall best team. Team points are assigned to a team based on the team for which the rider was competing at the time the points were earned. Rationale: The proposal gives incentive to recruit members from all categories, but weights higher categories with greater points. It is based on the NCCA points scoring system which encourages participation at all levels and is very successful.

How do clubs that have multiple separate race teams fit into this scheme?

For example, (and of course, this is totally random and not something I have any personal vested interest in) the Logan Race Club, of which the Sienna Dev't-Goble Knee Clinic Elite teams is part, but in the past there has been a separate women's team, juniors team, mountain bike team, and club.  Do all the points go in one pot?

I like the idea of a team point competition but why give different categories different point multipliers? Why not just score everybody the same across the board?

Again, as the guy calculating all this stuff. The simpler the better.  I would prefer just adding everything up. Thats simple and I not sure why we would weight one category higher than the other.

This model encourages teams to have riders in all categories and rewards riding ability appropriately.

The rationale for multiplying different categories by 4, 2, or 1 is for the same reasons that we have more prize money for higher categories -- rewarding hard work/riding ability with more points.  Winning the 1/2 race is a greater accomplishment than winning the 4/5 race.  The multiplication factors also discourage sandbagging.

Additionally, should a team that has lots of 4's and a few 2's be on equal footing with a team with lots of 1/2's and a few 4's?

In the NCCA, they have used a similar model as this with a great deal of success.  Their model encourages riding at an appropriate category and also encourages higher category riders to help and recruit lower category riders.
